Being a wandering Tevinter loyalist and mage in the south doesn’t usually come with the luxury of relationships or trust – not that he holds it against anyone, considering he is actually a spy and a maleficar, and neither topic make particular good conversation starters. [break][break] Despite the ‘Vint aspect that usually repels people from approaching and the elf part that often makes him invisible, Canicus is a good natured and generally friendly guy, and not the sort of person one would suspect of subterfuge. He’s an energetic conversationalist, curious about seemingly everything, and maybe a tad naïve. There’s little he’s not willing to discuss or debate. …Just don’t bring up slavery. Or blood magic. Or how evil people think Tevinter is, or the White Divine, or the Qun. Doing so may reveal a much different side to the usually agreeable mage. [break][break] But there is a hurricane of turmoil beneath that friendly demeanor. He loves his country and his patron, but the more he learns, the more he doubts. He wonders if continuing on his path and paying his debts is making him a slave in all but name, or if it’s the road to the acceptance and liberty he’s always craved. While Canicus is a friendly, good natured person, his inner turmoil likes to assert itself in the most inopportune ways. He’ll be engaged in pleasant conversation without a care, and then suddenly hit you with biting sarcasm – then go right back to nice. He can be happy as a clam one minute, and wrapped up in impenetrable melancholy the next. [break][break] You can always expect him to try, however. He has experienced the love of a family member, but the closest he’s gotten to knowing romantic love has quite literally been reading about it in his books. His relationship to physical love is quite similar, as while he has experienced a physical aspect, it could not by any stretch be considered remotely positive. [break][break] This, it’s difficult to approach the subject. Canicus is not entirely sure he understands love and romance as concepts, let alone believe he can experience them. He has no positive experiences to know what he likes, what he doesn’t, of if he has any preferences regarding the topic at all. [break][break] It would take a very, very patient, gentle and dedicated person to teach him, and it would be a long and arduous road. There’s no doubt, though, that the reward of his heart would be worth it.
