STAND YOUR GROUND, THE DAWN WILL COME
POSITIVE He may not be able to really read or write all too well on his own, but make no mistake. The elf is quite intelligent in his own right and while not necessarily book smart, he knows the ways of the world and more importantly, how to survive. He's quite observant and very clever, perhaps too clever for his own good at times. His quick wit and sharp tongue can cut just as sharp as that sword of his if you aren't too careful. A hard worker indeed! Fenris is quite dutiful, remaining loyal no matter how unenthusiastic as he may be about the task at hand (though that doesn't mean he wont complain). Still, while working is not always particularly 'fun', the elf is a very reliable ally that you can trust to complete whatever task he's set to and will never make promises unless he is absolutely certain he can keep them. No doubt, he will do anything necessary to ensure he doesn't fail. As much as his reputation may convince people otherwise, Fenris is actually a rather calm man who is not easily shaken or angered which makes him an ideal companion in stressful situations. Of course while he may nearly always wear a stoic expression, beware that even he has his limits. It's quite unnerving not being able to read a man, after all, and equally just as dangerous. He has a very practical mindset and comes across as a realist, tending to favor common sense rather than rely on theories or chance. He prefers to settle things in an uncomplicated manner and uses logic to deal with problems, though this can obviously come across as insensitive and close-minded at times, especially with idealist who may object to his stance on mages. Fenris is not a man to make empty promises and is quite the responsible fellow. When he gives you his word, he is certain to honor his commitment, even when times get tough. In the times where he finds himself wrong, he is not afraid to admit to his faults and apologize. As broody as he can be, no one can really argue that the elf isn't passionate. He may not believe in a whole lot, being a cynical and faithless man, but the one thing he truly believes in is freedom. Since escaping his master's chains, he's made it a personal mission to liberate slaves and fight against slavers. He may not have the power to end it himself, but he'll damn well take as many of those bastards out as he can. The only thing he's even more passionate about would perhaps be the woman he loves as he would certainly give his life for her. | LIKES The elf likes things? Yes, actually. Apples in particular are pretty good, and so is red wine, even though initially he hated the bitter stuff. He acquired a taste for it after many years of spiteful drinking though! And he likes animals, for the most part. They are simple creatures and can be quite easy to socialize with! Course he mostly likes them because they aren't people, but that's besides the point. DISLIKES Well he could go on and on about the things he hates if given the option to speak freely, but there are three key things that are the bane of his existence. Mages should go without saying. They are dangerous, simple as that. Slavers really shouldn't have to be explained and if you have to ask, you are part of the problem as far as he's concerned. Finally, he hates fish. Why? You can only stand the smell of them for so long! | NEGATIVE Fenris is undoubtedly stubborn, which has made people doubt how he'd managed to even survive slavery, though he's not sure if that's meant to be a compliment or not. He's gotten a bit better at least, but he can still be rather headstrong and is practically impossible to ever truly tame. It's not as if he's being difficult just for the fun of it though! He only ever truly puts up a fight if he feels he's justified. That being said, don't expect him to treat mages in a civil manner. Speaking of mages, Fenris is extremely judgmental, and once again it's not as if it's unfounded, or at least he tries not to be. Unfortunately that doesn't stop him from coming across as cruel and unfair at times as he's immediately compelled to judge people at face value. This is why when dealing with mages, his first assumption is that they are an abomination waiting to be unleashed. He knows that there are good ones out there, strong ones even, but unfortunately he also knows personally the effects of magic and how easily they can abuse their power, so while he may try to give people a chance, he will never fully trust a mage. His markings are just a painful reminder of what they are capable of. Well it goes without saying that Fenris can be quite insensitive, but it's not intentional. He's cynical and not one to mince his words, being quite blunt when it comes to expressing his opinions or giving others the honest yet harsh truth. That of course isn't always appreciated, especially when he may hurt people's feelings in the process. He's not completely heartless and will apologize if he ever goes too far, but he never says or does things without truly meaning them. Believe it or not, Fenris has got himself a sense of humor! Of course it usually manifests in sarcasm or witty one-liners in a deadpan manner which can sometimes shock, though mostly takes some getting used to, especially when you have a hard time deciphering whether he's being serious or sarcastic. His sarcasm however is also a coping mechanism, and those who know him are well aware of it's use as an evasion tactic. He's known by his companions as the "Broody Elf" and though he's gotten better with time, he does occasionally fall into his moods which can be rather off putting for strangers. He's had a tough life which has admittedly shaped him to be this way. He's gotten happier since then, but sometimes he just has his bad days and finds himself wanting to be alone. Still, he'd assure you that he does not brood while scowling of course. It should go without saying that Fenris can be quite aggressive. He's torn out a man's heart for simply calling him a slave, after all! But even with a nasty temper aside, in a battle he can be quite ruthless, not one to hold back. He's not exactly someone who's sword you want to be on the opposite end of as showing mercy is not exactly something he's all that great at. He was made to be a living weapon, so it makes sense that his attitude should cut as sharp as the sword he wields. |

[PTab=BIOGRAPHY]
THE NIGHT IS LONG AND THE PATH IS DARK
slaves don't have stories
From the very beginning, Fenris lived a life of slavery, knowing nothing else outside of it. Even then, he hardly can tell you much of his history, his memory having been lost to him. The few things he does know aren't exactly certain, but according to sources, he had a sister and a mother, both of which he has no contact with, nor does he even know of their current situations. It's ironic, really, considering his dedication to them is what had started it all. For their freedom, he competed to earn a boon and the very markings that have cursed him all these years. He'd succeeded in winning his master's favor by his resolve alone, a resolve that would quickly be broken as he discovered what it was he truly fought for.
While his family were declared free, he was assigned to a lifetime service to his master, the Tevinter magister named Danarius. He wasn't aware of what the man had in store for him, but he found out soon enough when the horrific experiments began. Danarius had discovered a practice that consisted of embedding lyrium beneath the skin. This process would grant remarkable abilities to the one who was fused with the lyrium. Naturally, he had wanted to test this out and Fenris had been the perfect candidate. He couldn't tell you how long he had suffered, but when it had finished, his body was covered in these intricate markings. His body would heal from the process, changing him into a living weapon, but his mind would be altered, the elf losing his memories of his life before the lyrium. Needless to say Danarius was satisfied, content with being able to manipulate his 'little wolf' to be the creation he wanted him to be. His fascination with his investment knew no bounds, and though Danarius was capable of being incredibly cruel, Fenris knew no better, having no reason to dream that there was life outside of his command.
Eventually his master would be called to the front lines of the Imperium's war against the Qunari, his beloved pet and bodyguard at his side, of course. While in Seheron, they were attacked by their foes, easily overpowered by their might. Fenris had fought fiercely to protect his master, giving him enough time to escape, but the mage was forced to leave his wolf behind, not willing to risk his own life for the slave's sake. With his master well out of harm, Fenris had focused on saving himself, though not without taking serious injuries. He'd manage to escape however, only to collapse deep within the wilds of an unfamiliar place.
When he awoke, he found himself in the company of Fog Warriors who had treated his injuries. For many months Fenris had lived with the warriors, taught the Qun and becoming familiar with how they lived, feeling a sense of camaraderie in his new found friends. For a time, he was starting to get used to living with them and had found peace in their numbers. But it was not meant to last as Danarius would return, injured but determined to retrieve his property. His new friends wouldn't have it, defending Fenris and refusing to hand him over. Unfortunately, all Danarius had to do was command it, and they'd all fall at Fenris' feet dead. The act of killing the Fog Warriors had left him distraught, but with it came a new found resolve. He had tasted freedom and he could no longer remain obedient. Fenris had taken advantage of his master's injuries and fled, determined to stay out of his grasp. But the magister would pursue him, unwilling to let go of his wolf.
It was a long and treacherous journey that led him the Kirkwall, the elf deciding to finally take a stand and confront his former master, ending this chase once and for all. His plans had lead him to encounter Hawke, a formidable human who would eventually help him achieve his goal. And once he was finally free from Danarius, Fenris had offered his alliance as payment.
Surely you know the story of the Champion of Kirkwall that it needn't be repeated. After the battle at The Gallows, the group had carried on with their lives, Fenris deciding to finally try living now that he was no longer a slave. While his home and new family may be in Kirkwall, the fugitive turned mercenary travels the land, making it a personal mission to free slaves from their binds by killing the slavers who would prey on them. He'd have you believe he's fully overcome his struggles by now, but truly he's still haunted by his past, the lyrium in his skin giving him no peace. He continues to fight though and finds comfort in knowing he has Zaria to support him.
the dreaded wolf
Fenris remains in his mansion in Kirkwall, cleaned up a bit after so many years. He's held up his promise to "exist with less offense" as Aveline had asked, though he's found people tend to keep their distance, which is something he prefers quite honestly. While it is most certainly his home and a place for him to just get away, he's more likely to be found in Hawke's estate when he's not in a broody mood.
Though his home lies in Kirkwall, the elf travels the lands, his occupation as a mercenary taking him to nearly all corners of the world. He mostly fights for coin, but has his own agenda as well that drives him. For Zaria's sake, he tries not to venture too far from home unless it's absolutely worth it, preferring to remain nearby to make sure Hawke doesn't get herself wrapped up into any more trouble. He still hasn't fully forgiven Varric for dragging her into the Inquisition's business.
While his markings no doubt cause him pain, he's more guarded against physical contact not because of the pain, but rather his aversion to having them touched. It's a great sign of trust if he allows anyone to touch him, and those who don't have said trust will have the misfortune of seeing just how aggressive he can be. No doubt this is due to his history with Danarius. What had happened? He'd truly rather not say. There's no sense in reopening old wounds.
