Ah, the Hanged Man. The regular hangout of the Carta, criminals, and normal people of Lowtown. Zaria had looked around Hightown for another place, but nowhere else had the same atmosphere. And, well, she'd gotten used to the Hanged Man with both Varric and Isabela having rooms here. It was also one of the best-known spots in all of Kirkwall. Well, except for the Gallows, of course, but that was different.
Zaria made her way through the other patrons and found a table against the wall, near the back of the room. Fenris had wanted to take care of something before they met the Inquisitor, so she was here first.
"What can I get for you, Champion?" asked one of the girls.
"Just an ale," she said, pulling some coppers from the pouch on her belt. "I'm waiting on a few people, so don't worry about me."
"Of course messerre," the girl said with a nod. She was back with a mug of ale, and Zaria handed the coppers to her after adding in a few extra. Anyone who worked here deserved some extra coin with what they had to deal with some days. It wasn't like she didn't have plenty to give a few extra coppers to the girl who served the drinks. She relaxed against the wall, taking a drink of the ale. The girls tended to reserve the good stuff for higher-profile patrons, like herself. Well, she hadn't ordered anything strong, the ale was good for being social.
Which was all she really wanted right now anyway. Fenris would be back soon and then the Inquisitor was supposed to be here. Zaria had been wanting to meet with Cyrlan away from the mess that was the Inquisition, especially since Varric gave him a title and one of the empty Hightown estates.
Hopefully the Inquisitor knew enough of Kirkwall to not get lost on the way here.

At one point, home had been family, had been the clan. Then it had simply been wherever he went, a feeling he simply carried about. Now, it was that and more; it was the stone walls of Skyhold and its frigid breezes; it was the laughter of the tavern and the melodious voice of their regular bard; it was the blissful comfort of relaxed banter when they set up camp in whichever corner of the wilderness their adventures took them. After all, there was no more clan - through his incapability, they had been killed. It did not deter him from clinging to a fragile strand of hope that some still survived, and the elf made frequent trips to the Free Marches to search when he could. It certainly helped that Varric had provided him with an estate in Kirkwall, though oddly enough, this was the first time he had actually spent more than a day in the city. Previously it had always been a quick business, simply drifting in and out before venturing into the sprawling lands beyond (lands that he was painfully familiar with). Now, however, he had some time, albeit time he had since allocated to meeting up with the Champion and her companion.[break][break] The elf spent some time tinkering about the estate in Hightown. It was minimally furnished but not distastefully, clearly not expecting any guest for quite some time. Such was as he thought. After all, he still resided in Skyhold lest he was travelling. Outside the walls of the building supposedly his own, wealthy merchants ambled about and continued in their daily drone of life. Eventually, he would make his own way outside, donning not armor but a light cloak draped over dalish wear, staff remaining in the estate. The mage's tattooed face earned him a few curious stares but for the most part, people went about their regular business. Everyone knew the Champion of Kirkwall. The Inquisitor? Heard of him, but few recognised his face here. The fact that he didn't quite resemble the image many had in their minds worked to his advantage in such a case too. The cloak tactfully covered the exposed prosthetic, a distinctive mesh of pale ironbark and steel, the only feature that stood out starkly. He made it to the Hanged Man without too much difficulty. It had quite the reputation, after all.[break][break] The crowd was not overwhelming, but it still took him a moment to locate the Champion. Or more accurately, for a serving girl to notice the bewildered look on his face and point him towards the back. He managed a startled word of thanks before an attempt to discreetly move towards Hawke, hand extended in a friendly wave. As it were, the edge of the cloak caught on a nearby chair and stopped him abruptly. It took him another moment to untangle it and gather the cloth (and his hurt pride) and slide into one of the vacant seats. The Inquisitor offered a sheepish grin, the inked pattern around his eye crinkling ever so slightly. "How have things been, Hawke?"[break][break] [attr="class","alive_much1a"] [attr="class","alive_much1"]the worst thing is that they aren’t even nightmares. they’re memories.

The old dwarf was still doing business, it seemed, as a familiar elf had approached him, handing him a simple letter that Anso quickly skimmed over while no one was looking. He'd nod at whatever the note had said before pocketing it, retrieving a sack of coin that he dropped into the pale haired man's already waiting hand. "I'm afraid I'm fresh out of stock, friend. But we'll keep in touch." he assures with a nod, Fenris looking slightly annoyed by the statement but nodded as well. "You know, I could send you a letter and it-" he starts until the look on the elf's face stops him. "Oh... Right." he scratches the back of his head. Though Fenris was starting to learn to read, he hadn't quite mastered it yet and preferred to meet face to face, honestly. It was a lot more straightforward, that way. "Well, keep in touch. Maybe next time I'll have something for you." he dismisses politely and the mercenary complies, thanking him for his coin before carrying on his way. With Anso having no jobs in line for him, he may have to search elsewhere, the elf feeling rather restless sitting around and doing nothing. At least he had plans for today? Fenris couldn't really say he was looking too forward to the visit, which was quite odd considering the Hanged Man was his destination... Well, maybe not. Even though he frequented the establishment often, he'd still insists the drinks were poor and the atmosphere was worse, but there was something about it that compelled him to keep visiting. He supposed it was the familiarity to it now. No, but the real issue was rather that he would be meeting with someone today. After their last encounter, the elf hadn't really kept in contact with the Inquisitor, and had learned that he would be in the area, Hawke wishing to meet up with him. While he had no real issue with the other, he couldn't promise that he wouldn't say something harsh towards the other with Zaria in their company, seeing as she was the source of any grief between the two. Whether Hawke was aware of that or not, he wasn't sure, but he'd try his best to behave, or simply focus on getting too drunk to hold up any conversation, good or bad. Fortunately that reward from his most recent job would do him some good today, at least! Fenris sighed at the thought as he approached the well known tavern. "Let's get this over with." This could either turn out very well, or he could end up arguing with Zaria... Again. He simply hoped for the best, and prepared for the worst. And with that he stepped inside. Before he even made his way to join them, he decided to approach the bar and grab himself a drink, purchasing himself an entire bottle before he'd seek them out. An easy task since he knew his way around the place better than he probably should have. And it seemed they were already socializing. Fenris, on the other hand, wordlessly slid in next to Hawke and popped open the bottle of wine, taking a good hearty "sip". Already off to a good start! i couldn't stop myself from posting orz let me know if i need to change anything! |
