STAND YOUR GROUND, THE DAWN WILL COME
POSITIVE - She began life with a keen moral compass, practiced in and out of the Chantry's reach. Her devotion to Andraste is only paled by her devotion to the Inquisition. - Her knowledge of the magical is only paled by her knowledge of cheese. What she doesn't know about either topic, she promptly makes all attempts to find out. Her thirst for knowledge is insatiable. - The loyalty she chooses to place with her friends is not unfounded. Brayton is known to leap farther into battle than she means to, if it is for a friend in need. - Brayton rarely complains about the conditions around her or what she finds herself in. If she ends up needing to stay the night on the cold, hard floor of an Avaar den, she will do so with a smile. - She is the most pleasant conversationalist that she can muster, managing politeness and civility whenever she can, and keeping a positive expression, even if there is blood splattered all over her face. - She lives to cheer people up. Even the slightest of frowns will gain a bright-faced Trevelyan sympathetically lending a hand. | LIKES - A good set of puns [cheese puns are bonus] - magical studies - 'all the colors of the rift,' as she would like to say. - magic, tomes, and the like - Cheese is pretty good to eat too. She doesn't discriminate, but she would prefer cheese that had not previously been raced. - However, she will gladly race a wheel of cheese with those willing. - Winter and thunderstorms have always excited her DISLIKES - Someone who doesn't appreciate cheese. - Letters from her parents - Those who treat mages as 'lesser beings.' - Enemies who insist on carrying those large, two-handed axes. They're so unwieldy! - Cloudy skies get her down. She's fond of the night sky. - While she will never breathe a word to the Inquisition, she is not pleased that the Rift was her most consistent link to her magic. | NEGATIVE - Her positivity wavers when there is little to be positive about, or when she feels insulted. She loses her luster when she cannot find a reason to keep it around company. - The disadvantage to her insatiable thirst for knowledge is that she, more times than not, finds herself in unsavory situations. An attempt to learn a sword fighting skill could end with her incurring an injury that a healer would roll their eyes at. The best way to learn is to experience, but sometimes that experience garners her nothing but trouble. - The constant fear of being disowned always looms over her head. To this day, it has still not occurred, but she cannot tell if that is because her parents devoutly follow the advice of a drunken Chantry sister in Ostwick, or if they hope she will see 'sense'... eventually. - At times, she will go out of her way so much to help her friends, that she will forget that she too, needs a little care. Her self-esteem is higher than she will admit to, keeping as humble as possible, but she will forgo food and water for longer than may be considered 'healthy,' if it means a friend will survive. - While not considered 'closed minded,' Brayton's attempts at understanding concepts that are beyond her devout, Andrastian mind are limited. In some cases, it takes her longer to understand why exactly some do not believe in Andraste, or why there are other schools of thought out there. She remains optimistic that she will at least somewhat understand the other side. - When her positivity does not seem endless, Brayton has a difficult time stopping, to the point where it can prove awkward, or potentially annoy those around her. It doesn't tend to stop her, until the yelling in her direction starts. |

[PTab=BIOGRAPHY]
THE NIGHT IS LONG AND THE PATH IS DARK
'You must earn your place in the family.'
The eldest daughter, and second eldest child of the Trevelyan clan had much to prove. The moment she showed signs of magical prowess, she was sent to the Ostwick Circle of Magi by her devout, Andrastian family. Her designation in noble lineage would serve well while she studied to hone her talents, catching praise from fellow mages, and safety from those with unscrupulous moral compasses. None dared to cross the Trevelyans, who only dignified her as one of their own during the Bloomingtide Celebrations. No one raced cheese wheels quite like Brayton.
The Mage/Templar War saw rebellion within the Ostwick circle, which tenaciously remained neutral. Those within the Circle with strong attitudes turned from the Chantry, many of Brayton's friends among them. Her heart remained true to both Chantry and Trevelyan name, and thus she kept her ties with the Circle. When the call came for a representative to be sent to the Conclave, Brayton volunteered in the hopes that it would renew her parent's faith in their child.
Her travels to Haven would have her in the company of fellow Free Marchers, each with their own agendas to speak of at this gathering. The journey proved fruitful for the naive noble woman, who would learn of everyone's political agendas as they each made attempts to win over the Ostwick Circle's representative to their cause. The Conclave, warned a fellow mage, was expected to be worse. More opinions, more sides, and more to bicker about.
Brayton would never learn to find out. As dedicated to the cause as she was, the morning they were to gather with the other attendants, she found her devotion to sleep stronger. When she awoke, the Temple of Sacred Ashes lay in ruins, and all but one of the Conclave's attendees were under the rubble.
Instead of returning home to report of what occurred, she chose to visit Haven, inhabited by the newly formed Inquisition, promptly joining upon discovering the group's cause. With the Circles all but dissolved, Brayton would have little to return to. Her fight lay with those who wished to quiet the warring turmoil between templars and mages. Her noble ties earned the Inquisition a small number of connections, as well as limited funding from sympathetic allegiances. She developed her magical skills in combat, fascinated by the way Cyrlan Lavellan's connection with the rift worked. In an effort to aid the Inquisition further, Brayton thrust herself into research and practical studies of the 'big hole in the sky.'
Then Corypheus revealed himself, and the literal dragon tore into Haven. The gravity of the Inquisition's actions solidified themselves deep into Brayton's soul that night, reinforced by the apparent loss of the elf they came to call 'Herald of Andraste.' While Cyrlan's disappearance would not last for long, the young Trevelyan was shaken by the events. After the Inquisition settled in Skyhold, her research into the Fade and the Rift doubled until she could call upon the Fade herself, mastering a form of magic that only few outside of the Venatori dared to touch.
It was inevitability that she would hear from her parents before too long, in the form of a letter hand delivered by her own brother. As the second eldest sibling and a templar who had little business wanting to concern himself outside of Ostwick, he only wished his sister to return. Little did either sibling know, the letter she was handed that day lay the keys to personal turmoil and a sadness she would not be able to solve within her family. That day, she would find the letter contained the message that she should not return to Ostwick, until she had decided to keep herself out of all goings on with this 'Inquisition.'
All her life, she had been told what to do, who to talk to, and how to go about it. Now she had a clear purpose, one that went beyond family ties and the Chantry. No, their actions would change the whole of Thedas, and she was not going to turn from that because 'mother and father said so.' Her return letter said as much, which left with a dismayed brother, who returned to Ostwick with a saddened heart.
Brayton's aid would come in more forms that her affluence, noble name, and research. With her newfound abilities, she would go on to manipulate the field of battle as well as she could hold her own playing 'The Game' at the Winter Palace. While she shook hands with distant relations who pledged to aid her cause (much to the ire of her parents), she breathed the air of the Fade itself. Her worst nightmare was not facing her fears in corporeal form, but instead finding that her parents truly, officially disowned her in more than a simple letter, cutting her off from her connections of nobility and thus cutting the Inquisition off from valuable resources.
But the letter of disownment never came, perhaps from a hope on the part of her parents that she would see sense and return home. Not that it would come to matter, as Brayton continued to aid the Inquisition in taking down Corypheus and his followers. As rebuilding began, Brayton insisted on staying behind to help. Seeing those devastated in the wake of the battles during that period of time only reminded her to be mindful of everyone. The teachings of Andraste were not lost on the young Trevelyan woman.
Her faith would be tested once more, when the Inquisition was called before the Exalted Council. While the reunion of friends was sweet, it was bittered by the air of political intrigue and desire between the nations wishing to control the Inquisition or lay it to ruin. But behind the political forefront was the assassination by way of eluvian, which only served as a vehicle for revelations that were better unknown. She may never say so, but Brayton now detests her fellow rift magic-wielding mage, not for his cause, but for the means he took to get there.
Since the events at the Winter Palace, Brayton has invested her efforts wholeheartedly in the Inquisition. While she has little desire to insert herself into a war between Tevinter and Qunari, the mage insists on following the lead of Cyrlan in the hopes that she will continue to find her purpose among their ranks.
the cheese is trapped
- While rift magic is drawn from the fade itself, as opposed to the rift, Brayton's reliance on there being a rift has inhibited her abilities since the defeat of Corypheus. She has not stopped honing her skills, and, since that event, she has developed the skills she needs to combat cast. This is all still a work in progress.
- Her magical basis lies within the elements of ice and a dabbling of lightning. The studies in the Circle in Ostwick were utilitarian, as the area remained warm enough to need a method of cooling one's self. Since the Rift has been sealed, Brayton has refined the art of Winter.
- Her living quarters has a mural upon both wall and ceiling that first was victim to a research accident, then to an overzealous pair of interior 'decorators.' She is not certain who the culprits are, but they created a beautiful, albeit wacky image depicting cheese racing, so she intends to keep it there. They didn't get anything on the books, so she has few complaints.
- As for her reading material, the young mage keeps her tomes and scrolls in a single bookshelf, creatively organized based on how she decides to rearrange them for the week. Her chaotic natures means her small library is forever changing, but she always seems to find the strangest tomes in her collection, even at the most inopportune times.
- The Trevelyan family's extensive reputation with cheese wheel racing is known throughout the Free Marches. Brayton has made attempts to spread the joys of the sport with her friends of the Inquisition, to little avail. She will continue to try until it finally sticks to members of the Inquisition.
