STAND YOUR GROUND, THE DAWN WILL COME
POSITIVE - diplomatic: she learned how to talk people out of fighting a long time ago. probably because most people take one look at her and decide she's harmless. - compassionate: at least she used to be. it's still in there... somewhere. - smart: smart in all the ways that one can be smart, except for survival and common sense, perhaps. she is intelligent, intellectual, witty, a fast learner, and good at retaining information. one would hope so after all of the studying she's done. -powerful: not that she ever showcases this. she completed her harrowing in record time, and devoted her life to studying magic. by now words like competent and efficient aren't nearly enough to describe her abilities, though she'd rather not anyone know that. she doesn't want to be perceived as a threat. still, if you stand close enough your hair might just stand on end. - instinctual: she follows her gut. it's kept her alive. - peaceful: she's not a brawler. mostly because she's afraid of fighting. probably. - pensive: she thinks before she acts. then thinks some more. and some more. and thinks herself out of acting. | LIKES - primal magic - books - flowers - pretty things - fruit - animals - storms (as long as she can find shelter) - ancient structures and objects. DISLIKES - blood magic - sleeping outside - cooking (and bland food while we're at it.) - mud - combat - social situations - taverns (because of drunk idiots) - using her magic in front of people. she'd rather them not know that she's a mage. | NEGATIVE - unreachable: aloof, distant, and seemingly cold, little gets through to her, and even fewer people can. - untouchable: while this isn't necessarily intentional, over the years she's evolved into something more. so absorbed in her abilities and her self, she hardly even seems human anymore. - inaccessible: the only time she can be reached is when she wants to be reached, and that's rare. - selfish: she's spent years taking care of herself. her fear of conflict means that she's flighty and runs from danger, even if the danger is only perceived. after so long being on her own she's learned to take care of herself first and foremost. - cowardly: as competent as she is, the idea of fighting still frightens her. she'd much rather run from a fight than stand her ground. if she can't run then she usually tries diplomacy first, but ultimately she wants to be anywhere but where the fight is happening. - fearful: this is pretty self explanatory, yes? |

THE NIGHT IS LONG AND THE PATH IS DARK
background
born in kirkwall, she was the first child of damion and revka amell of the noble amell family. once it became clear that she was "cursed" by magic she was sent to the circle in ferelden. she was five years old at the time. her family never forgave her. ultimately her parents had four more children, each mages and each sent to a different circle. her mother accused her of cursing them, but solona would have never, even if she had known how.
she arrived at kinloch hold shortly before her sixth birthday, and initially spent most of her time alone. for the first few weeks after her arrival she cried herself to sleep. eventually the kindness of the first enchanter helped her to open up, and she found herself thinking quite fondly of irving.
ultimately she did come to make more friends, and it was because of one of these friends that she almost lost her place in her now beloved tower when she was an adolescent. thanks to her bond with irving and favoritism among the circle she was able to stay.
when she was thirteen uldred attempted to take over the circle with blood magic. she was there when the grey wardens saved the tower. she watched as the one and only home she'd ever known was destroyed by blood magic.
they managed to rebuild, but things were never quite the same.
when the circles disbanded she was lost and frightened. everyone had gone crazy, or so it seemed. after the events at the conclave she fled to what seemed to be the safest place: tevinter.
she spent the next nine years in minrathous but is returning to the south now that war is brewing.

esoteric, ethereal, and eternal
once she was soft and gentle. known for her kindness and naivety, many of those at kinloch hold were fond of her. delicate by nature, she was easily frightened, and frequently had nightmares that left her and her sheets drenched in sweat. rather than fight, she always sought the diplomatic solution.
but time has changed her. she learned to survive and lost herself along the way.
once friendly and kind, now she is withdrawn and reclusive. illusive and hard to find, she comes and goes. seeking her out is pointless, but she will find you. it's been decades since she's considered anywhere her home. there is nothing to her life beyond her magic. ultimately it became all she had, and if you were to take her gift away then only a shell would remain.
if you brush away the years, the kind-hearted woman is still there. the wariness she's acquired limits her relations with others, but it's possible to gain her trust and work your way into her inner circle, where what remains of who she once was waits.
solona's specialty is in primal magic, and she is a master of the elements.
